Pearl Beach delivered more than expected

Beachfront hotel with several pools and overall good standard. Large and spacious areas. The staff is very friendly, helpful and service minded. The food is very good at Pearl Beach and the sister hotel Aegean Pearl. The hotels serve a large and good breakfast buffet as well as a very good and varied dinner buffet. The service on the beach is good and there are safe distances between the sunbeds. Bathing shoes are recommended The hotel felt very safe during these pandemic times (good measures to prevent the spread).

Very kind staff and always at our service.

Nice hotel just a walk (2,3 km) from Rethymnon. A taxi one way approx. 5- €. We changed room to a bigger one without any problems. The staff even asked if they should help us packing. We just had breakfast and did not use the restaurant for other meals. The breakfast was rather simple compared with other 4* hotels. Towels and bed linen was old and too worn due to a 4* hotel. All staff was very kind and helpful. Cleaning was fine. Surroundings and special the structure of the garden is wonderful and have a lot of spice scent. One problem is that too many of the other guests blocks the sunbeds with towels and leave for hours. That should be solved by the management since other guests are not able to use the sunbeds and the pool.

Would not recommend

We arrived on Tuesday 17th September 2019 at around 11pm. When we arrived we checked in at the sister hotels reception. Staff were extremely welcoming, offering fresh juice and a place to sit whilst the receptionist sorted our rooms. A man showed us to our rooms and showed us how the air conditioning work etc. In the morning we all decided to head down to have our all inclusive breakfast in the hotel restaurant (we were a party of 6), when we walked in it felt as though we had walked into a party that we weren’t invited too. Standing at the main door waiting to be seated, we were stared at by the staff and guests and even laughed at. When we looked around at the buffet we were appalled. The food options were hideous, boiled eggs, some french toast and some grilled ham. The fresh juices were room temperature as well! The Pearl Beach swimming pool was always full, so we spent most of our days at the Aegean hotels pool. Which was nice, but it was a fight to find a sun bed. I would say there is about 30 sun beds around the pool. We went to the bar to order a drink, we explained that we were all inclusive and was told that we could only order drinks from the menu that had a star* next to them, otherwise we’d have to pay for them. There is about 10 alcoholic drinks you can have. Lunch time was fine, however if you want to eat at the snack bar by the pools, instead of getting completely dressed and going to the restaurant you have to pay to eat even if you’re all inclusive. There were two girls who worked behind the bar who were amazing, one of them was called “Sofia” can’t remember the other ladies name (she served me and my mum cappuccinos every morning). The swimming pool is absolutely freezing (even in 30 degree Celsius heat) and the deepest part is 1.40 meters. The bedrooms are lovely we stayed in room 535. However, if you’re over the height of 5’6 you’re going to have an issue. I am 5’6 (an average height for a female) and my legs hung over the end of the bed. They do provide safe inside the wardrobe which comes with a key (a lot easier than remembering a code) and a hairdryer in the bathroom. 2 women from our party stayed in room 529, one evening they sat on the balcony at around 10:30pm have a chat, and the neighbours next door shouted at them and told them to be quiet. I would understand if it was midnight but it wasn’t. 3 days later they returned to the room after being at the pool and had had a note put under their door from the hotel concierge telling them to keep the noise down as they’re bothering the neighbours!! Not very professional. The maids were fantastic, the only thing I would say is it’s not nice when they put our belongings back into our suitcases that were on the dressing table. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to have a “wild” holiday or for anyone who is looking for good entertainment. If you’re between the ages of 60-80 it’s perfect! Food 2/10, drinks 3/10, cleanliness 8/10, staff 9/10 and evening entertainment 1/10. Unfortunately I wouldn’t come back to this hotel, which is a shame considering how much we paid each!

Disappointing for a 4 star hotel

We have stayed at the same Sentido Hotel in Turkey twice and felt confident in booking the 4 star Sentido Beach Hotel in Rethymnon, Crete. Tho it did stretch our holiday budget! There are 2 hotels, the 5 star Sentido Agean Pearl and the 4 star Sentido Pearl Beach. There is no clear division between the reception areas, pools or bars. This made us feel rather like second class citizens in a 4 star hotel. although we enjoyed Rethymnon our holiday was marred by our hotel experience. We were treated so well in all the cafes, bars and shops that we went into - pleasant friendly staff, complimentary nuts and water with our drinks and snacks. The Sentido Hotels seem to be the low point of Rethymnon. We were half board and although breakfast included drinks (non alcoholic), drinks had to be purchased with our dinner. As well as alcoholic drinks throughout the week, we bought a plastic bottle of water for over 2 Euros at the restaurant on the second evening of our stay and, because we did not drink it all, we took it back to drink with our dinner on the third evening. We explained this to the waitress who said it was not allowed and an argument followed. We were "allowed" to keep it that evening but told "not to do it again". I queried this at Reception and was told it was against the law throughout Greece - I don't know if this is true and it certainly wasn't explained at the time. There was a shower dispenser on the wall but it wasn't possible to get any gel out. We called the internal number we had been given and someone said they would be along to fix it. No-one turned up and later in the afternoon we went to Reception to enquire and it was then fixed. We were told that we had pushed it too hard. This was not true. It broke again after about 2 days and we just left it. I was shocked to find we had been charged 10 cents for our internal phone call regarding this but was told it was probably a mistake and given the 10 cents back. There were 2 flashing red lights on smoke detectors directly above the beds which flashed every 3 seconds throughout the night. Not conducive to a good night's sleep. We realise this is for our safety but the lights could have been positioned better, perhaps if the room was more spacious. We could hear barking dogs and the smell of cigarettes wafted in. The barking dog was behind the fence opposite our apartment door and toilet and bathroom window. We left the window open as the extractor fan wasn't working. We realise some of the issues are minor but it all added up to a less than 4 star experience for us. However, the food in the restaurant was delicious. An enormous range of fruit, soup, bread, vegetables, pulses, meat, deserts, ice-cream - served by (apart from the 1 incident mentioned above) friendly, knowledgeable, efficient staff. Although we are not vegetarian, we think you could have a varied vegetarian diet here. There were different dishes each day. And the shower facilities for late departures was excellent. we feel that the Sentido Pearl Beach is letting down the name of Sentido.

Solo traveller

A great choice for single travellers, couples and families alike, with friendly staff, modern facilities and an enviable beachfront location. If you want a seat by the pool, get there early! But there’s plenty of sun loungers for hotel guests to use on the beach. The centre of Rethymno is about 20-30 minutes walk from the hotel, but there are plenty of shops close by. As a solo traveller I’ve felt perfectly safe and relaxed here during a week long break, and am already planning another Sentido holiday next year.
