Iso alue, mikä oli kiva, oli tilaa oleskella eri paikoissa. Erityiskiitos Litzille (tarjoilijalle)! Hän oli aivan ihastuttava ja palvelualtis.

If we wanted to do some sport activities, that was definitely the right place. On top of that, the staff members are super friendly and they helped at the best of their abilities.

We thought Apollo was the main operator of the hotel. Unfortunately that wasn't the case as the hotel was overwhelmed by the other tour operator Neilson. The big and strong presence apparently influenced the activities and also the offer of the restaurants, which in our opinion was a bit too much oriented to satisfy the taste of the British guests. Not necessarily a bad thing, but last year in the other almost next to this where the guests were mainly from Nordic Countries, the food was a bit more balanced.

Aktiivisella syyslomalla

Viikon loma

Olimme lomalla apollomatkojen kautta.

Not quite the ticket

We had a good two weeks in early June, but I missed the Neilson vibe of people arriving and participating together. I've avoided other Neilson resorts with the 10/11 day option for years because I suspected it interfered with the atmosphere and having taken a risk with Rhodes this year I feel my concerns were justified. We go on Neilson holidays (this was our 10th) mainly for the water based activities and while we enjoyed these at Rhodes (trying winging was fun if splashy!) I was surprised by how few dinghies in good repair there were. I would love there to be more structured tuition for those who are regular Neilson sailers but don't sail in between - a laser improver course would be fab. Sometimes the racing sessions provide this, but other years they are just the opportunity for UK dinghy racers to demonstrate their superiority. I think the multiple arrival days/shared resort explain the lack lustre welcome meetings and the lack of printed information in the rooms - but these did impact the feel of the holiday, making it seem much less structured and harder to navigate the various options (we didn't do any fitness for example, or use the spa). On top of this the food left in the room for the late night arrival was awful - a warm white bread sandwich made with the crust of the loaf (yurgh) and sad looking fruit. Not a great welcome. The restaurant food was fine (although why no seeds and nuts with breakfast, only on the salad bar at lunch?) but it lacked the "focus" speciality dishes or even whole evenings that Neilson run retaurants have offered. The non-inclusive restaurant by the pool closest to the beach was lovely on the one occasion we went. All the reception, restaurant and bar staff were lovely, friendly and very helpful - there did need to be more of them on busy nights though. The Neilson beach and bike staff were great too (we didn't play tennis!). Our room was very comfortable in the block nearest to the beach and the pink fitness deck (where the sound system gets switched on at 8am every morning). I enjoyed the little MTB cycling I did at this resort - loved the easy to adjust bike seat heights - especially after I'd discoverd the gel seat covers that could be borrowed. The bike team were also very helpful directing us to the local pharmacy when I needed it. As for the sun lounger situation - I think there should be a bodies only policy - you're sat on it or it's free and your belongings can be moved if someone else wants it (baskets would be handy to pop things in)! I don't really understand why towels are thought to grant occupation rights. But, I can only assume that the incredibly uncomfortable ones at Levante are to try and dissuade people from lingering on them as there aren't enough to go round - it worked for me, I think I managed an hour or so over the whole the two weeks. We did enjoy our holiday, but I don't think this will be top of my list to return to. Sadly Lesbos and Lemnos were on that list :-(

Nice hotel

First time with Neilson holidays on a group booking of 16 of us made up of 12-17 year old children and 8 adults. Hotel is clean and tidy, as there were three of us in our family we had the smaller room compared to the rest of party but is was fine for us. We were in the main block and it had great air con which was very much needed and a balcony with a view to the sea and the main pool. Nice clean tidy, comfortable room. Neilson welcome talk wasn’t great, not very much explained and children didn’t enjoy kids club, it was hotter than usual in Rhodes when we were there and the children were mostly sitting around and then not doing half the activities advertised in the programme. My son went to two sessions and didn’t want to go to anymore. They need to do more water based activities in the heat! The water based activities on offer were good in our group all of them were used daily and enjoyed. The restaurant food was ok but like any mass catering environment it gets repetitive and we did not use all of our vouchers and chose to go out for meals in Lindos, Rhodes Old Town, a village near Lardos and the local town/village to the Levante Beach. Bar staff were lovely at the hotel at the beach pool bar and the main hotel bar. Receptionist were helpful too.

Fantastic week at Levante Beach Resort

This will be a long review… First of all, I should state that we visited Levante Beach resort in 2019, when it was a Mark Warner resort. Now it is a Neilson resort. We haven’t been on a Neilson holiday before, but we were with family who had. So we are in an interesting position to compare rivals in a market and also how a resort has changed as a result of a change in operators. My view, comparing Neilson and Mark Warner at Levante is that I prefer Neilson. There was much more of a community — the resort host Ben was fantastic. He came round to every table at lunchtime to check we were having a good time and he led and joined in the socialising in the evening. That didn’t happen with MW in 2019. A minor quibble is that the welcome meeting was quite fast and there was a lot to take in. A more relaxed info session, perhaps with a handout summarising the key details (I do recognise the desire to go paperless however) might work better. But the resort team were great throughout the week. The tennis coaching was included with Neilson, with MW we had to book (and pay) in advance, although MW may have changed their business model in their new Rhodes resort. The coaches at Levante were great — shout outs to Will, Max, Emily, Chris and Grant (apologies if I’ve missed anyone!) My only issue is that they have a set schedule of coaching and depending on what day you arrive, you just drop into the training schedule rather than it being a set cohort of people starting and finishing together. Having said that, the coaching was excellent and I made significant improvements over the week. I was delighted to reach the Blue/Green final — losing on the final point in the final game! I didn’t do any sailing/windsurfing, but I did go out on a kayak several times. I normally went out first thing, when the sea was at its calmest. Kayaking in the afternoon when the winds get up and there are a lot of sailors and windsurfers can be tricky. I didn’t have any problems getting a kayak at 9:30am, apart from one time when a friend and I wanted to use a double kayak only to find that one of the kids clubs had use of the entire fleet. I went out on a green (lowest level) mountain bike ride around the headland in Kolympia. I found this fairly straightforward, despite being an inexperienced mountain biker. Lucy and Jake guided us on this tour and they were great. I really wanted to do the ride to Anthony Quinn Bay (blue ride) but a tennis injury stopped this. If we come back, I really want to do more mountain biking as I think this is an area where Neilson trumps MW. In 2019 with MW, it was made quite obvious that if you weren’t an experienced road/mountain biker then don’t bother. This week, the Neilson biking team did their best to be inclusive to anyone who expressed an interest. My daughter did some Yoga classes with Frida, and she loved them. I know that others in our party did more, as well as the more intensive HIIT training. These were run by Playitas, rather than Neilson. I know some reviewers didn’t like this, but the feedback that my daughter and others gave was that these sessions were great. I also did some Padel tennis with Magnus — he was great fun and learning a new sport was great (a sort of cross between squash and tennis using a swingball bat). Finally, the resort itself. The hotel staff were great, and didn’t seem much different from 2019. The main reception team were helpful in booking taxis and restaurants on our two nights out. The restaurant staff were a bit stressed as they had a lot to do and they seemed under-staffed in comparison to how the hotel was in 2019. The buffet food for lunch and dinner was lovely — there was a lot of variety, but I suspect that if we were there for two weeks we might see some repetition. Having said that, the BBQ station provided bbq pork, chicken, fish and grilled vegetables etc and was excellent. I think the food was better than in 2019 . I should also give a big shout out to the two people running the main lounge bar. They were amazing, really friendly and always willing to serve. My only criticism is that there were only two of them, and as such queues at the bar could be long during social evenings. The hotel should think about more support staff at the bar. That was a long review — in short, I loved our week at Levante, and it was better than being at the same resort in 2019 with MW. However, I can see how long-standing Neilson devotees might find issues.
