“Almost” Perfect! Views make it worth it!
Our first time in Santorini we found this hotel on Booking.com after a night looking through endless pages of hotels we come to the conclusion that this ticked our boxes the most for its value for money and location. Upon arrival you’re greeted with stairs, stairs and more stairs. There are lifts but stairs seemed quicker. Reception is at the bottom along with the main pool, bar, and restaurant. Check in was fast and easy. The staff speak perfect English and made us feel very welcome. We were given a quick briefing on the location of the facilities and then quickly shown to our room with conveniently was room 51 which is 30 metres from reception. The room was nice, we felt slightly catfished as the room looks a bit better in pictures but it had the essentials; bed, bathroom, tv and mini fridge. The bathroom is small and very cave like. Occasionally had the smell of sewage. Shower had no holder so it was a case of literally holding the shower head while you wash (very odd). The bed wasn’t too comfortable. Very firm. The location of the room means there’s a lot of people walking past your room, there’s also a set of stairs next to your room so the sound of flip flops/ sandals going up and down stairs eventually become background noise. But this catfish room is a stone in the ocean compared to the truly breathtaking view you have. I have been fortunate to have traveled to a lot of countries but this view will take some beating. Sun sets at around 6:58pm so take 10 minutes to see this bucket list moment because it’s worth it. Overall the hotel is very picturesque, very well located and great value for money. Bar staff are friendly and bringing your drink or snacks to your location of choice is no problem whatsoever. We didn’t opt for breakfast at the hotel as €14 each seems steep. To summarise. If you don’t mind a few stairs and want something that ticks most boxes. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Very popular for weddings and wedding photography. I would consider this hotel if I was to ever return to Santorini.
Fabulous hotel, lots of stairs
This is a lovely hotel in a fantastic location with fabulous views over the Santorini caldera. We booked a junior suite which had a private patio with sun beds, chair and table. We were aware of the public path that runs through the hotel and asked for a room that would not be overlooked by this. Be aware the patio area for some rooms is pretty public, right by the pool / bar or main walkways in some cases. Our room was attractive, bed seemed a bit hard but was actually very comfortable. We had a good clean shower room and no issues with hot water. Breakfast is included (for us anyway) and was pretty good, although perhaps not as extensive as in a larger hotel. The hotel is about 200m from the Imerovigli bus stop for buses to Fira and from there to the rest of the island. We used the bus a lot, going to Oia and to Akrotiri to see the excavations. Less than €2 per person per journey on large modern buses. Also lots of restaurants within walking distance, although we found the hotel was actually better value in some cases. If you’re thinking of this hotel, do look at the photos posted by other users. There are many many stairs, only some of which can be avoided using the lifts. I would say the hotel is not at all suitable for those with mobility issues. For the same reason it is not recommended for small children either - the pools are also not very child friendly and to be realistic, there is not much for kids generally on Santorini. However, it was perfect for us.
Excellent customer service
We did not get to stay here unfortunately due to covid. Thought I had wrote a review but have just noticed it never posted so I’m writing one as it’s what this place deserves. We were due to stay October 2020 Our son had covid symptoms the night before we were due to travel so unfortunately we had to cancel our trip. We had booked the hotel ourselves and it was a non refundable policy. We messaged the hotel out of hope they’d move the booking, they responded straight away and issued a full refund and their well wishes. They were so lovely and understanding especially during a time where the holiday industry has suffered so much. We cannot thank them enough and we are hoping to book again to come here and finally stay. It looks amazing and we have already experienced their amazing customer service! Thank you once again
The perfect stay!
I was originally very apprehensive about coming to the hotel having seen some poor reviews on tripadvisor. However, the andromeda apartments exceeded all of our expectations and delivered a fantastic holiday. If you are travelling with a family I would book this hotel without hesitation. Generally speaking, hotels are very beautiful but very quiet. What we loved about andromeda, was that there is a fantastic pool area with music (not too loud) and pool bar with great drinks, cocktails and snacks at a reasonable price. In my opinion the hotel is absolutely not 5 star, it does look a little tired in places but it delivers really good value for money in comparison with other hotels. We have travelled in a large group for a wedding and visited a few different hotels. The other hotels that we visited were incredibly beautiful, but very quiet and would not have been suitable for our lively 5 year old. Other hotels can be extortionate also. A grey goose vodka and coke is 16 euros at andromeda, in other hotels in the area that particular drink has been up to 48 euros! The one thing that lets Santorini down is that it can be extortionate. Taxis are expensive and inconsistent. The same trip from the hotel to Fera has cost as little as 15 euros and as much as 50 euros. To avoid this it is best to organise everything through the hotel reception. All of the reception staff have been brilliant throughout our stay. On check in, Harry shared maps of the hotel and the area with us and shared a few restaurant and day trip recommendations. He then guided us to our room. We were thrilled with our room. We were in room 42, which was perfect for the family as it was right next to the pool area. The room is a great size, with very powerful air conditioning that remains on all day, providing much needed relief from the Santorini sunshine! The views are quite simply incredible. Comparing the view to views from other hotels in the area, the kaldera view at andromeda was by far my favourite. The pool area is in a great place to take advantage of the views. There are 58 rooms at andromeda and only 7 pairs of sunbeds around the pool so you have to be early to take one! However the hotel does adopt a policy that if you leave your sunbed for more than 10 minutes they reserve the right to move your belongings behind the pool bar to allow others to sunbathe. As you can imagine this has caused some controversy and daily arguments! I think it would be worth the hotel considering explaining the policy to people on check in to avoid these sorts of arguments. The breakfast is very good offering continental and cooked options. It is served in a small restaurant as well which was again ideal for us as many other hotels in the area serve breakfast to your room, meaning you have to make breakfast selections the day before. We have absolutely loved our stay at andromeda. The staff are helpful, polite and very hard working. I would like to make a special mention for Bill at the hotel bar who makes a mean cocktail and the rest of the bar staff who have worked so hard to fulfill our every request. We will certainly be back again soon!
