Wow what a fabulous hotel

Wow what a fabulous hotel, always read reviews before we travel & they were all spot on. I’m a vegetarian & the Buffet had so much variety which is rare. The desserts were amazing. George, Cristov & Manolis was so professional but friendly with it. Hotel has a policy to not save sunbeds which makes it fair to everyone. Very few beds by the pool but there is a lot on the beach. If you can afford it it is well worth upgrading to a swim up room as you have your own terrace with sunbeds. Block 4 has the sun after lunch. All staff are very friendly & polite. Drink prices are what you would expect at a 5* hotel. Highly recommend.

Good, but not quite as advertised

We stayed as a couple in a 'Superior Double Sea View with Sharing Pool' room for twelve nights in September. Mostly an enjoyable stay, but some things to note (which the hotel is unlikely to be able to fix). The web site describes the beach as being "...natural, golden, sandy...". It isn't. At about 20 meters wide, it is mainly gravel, shingle and pebbles leading to the sea which is a rock bed. I would recommend taking beach shoes with you. The web site shows the room as having a sun-bed platform extending over the pool. They don't all have this. Of the 18 rooms on the North West facing block, only five had them. With the shared patio design, these become divisive. You pay the same as your neighbors but don't have the same facilities. The resort faces mainly North so the sun only got to the block we were in around 2:30pm, the other block with shared pools had the sun in the morning but not the afternoon. BUT, there are a lot of positives Firstly, the staff are wonderful. The porter, receptionists, cleaners, restaurant staff, pool staff, lifeguards, gardeners and maintenance staff always had a smile, always had a good morning/afternoon/evening. All spoke excellent English and were ever so helpful. Rooms are modern, well equipped, with tea/coffee and a mini fridge. Rooms were cleaned every day and a couple of bottles of fresh water were left each time . As we had a late arrival the hotel left some snacks for us along with fruit and a bottle of wine. The television has a limited number of channels delivered by apps, but you can connect your smart-phone/tablet if need be. The food selection was great (we were half board). All buffet service in the main restaurant with a big choice and the fall-back options of pizza and 'spag bol'. A fine spread of deserts from fruit, ice-creams and huge variety of pastries. During our stay the hotel had a couple of themed nights with welcome drinks (even sparkling wine one morning). We tried the Almyra restaurant one evening (came with a 34% discount for those on half-board). Had a lovely meal with the sound of the sea and beautiful sun-set for entertainment. Entertainment was provided most nights and sometimes at breakfast. All local but of good standard. Occasionally in the main restaurant but usually one one of the two bar areas. We also tried a couple's massage in the Spa which, while extra, was wonderful. Just outside the hotel are two bus stops (one going west, the other east). We went into Rethymnon twice during our stay. The bus took around 30 minutes and cost €1.20 pp each way. Tickets' can be bought (for cash) at reception. Reception can provide lots of advice as to what to do and see in town. The hotel, being quite modern, has it's own downloadable app which has information about the facilities but also allows for food/drink ordering to the room, beach or pool loungers. It allows you to make restaurant tables, massage appointments and a lot more. A big plus. And there is a beach towel policy that prevents people from "reserving" loungers with their towels and then leaving them while they go off somewhere else....10/10 from me!

Excellent Hotel

Just returned from a 12 day stay at this hotel. This is the best 5 star hotel we have stayed at in Greece in terms of service, staff were extremely efficient and showed a genuine interest in ensuring you had everything you needed for an enjoyable holiday. We were always served very promptly in the bars and restaurants and plates were cleared away in a timely fashion. The whole hotel is shiny and new and clean! The rooms were lovely with separate toilet, iron and ironing board and a ceiling fan which cooled the room down perfectly and was not noisy. We had a seafront room and went to sleep listening to the sea. Ate at one of the Al A Carte restaurants one night and had lovely fresh fish with a view of the sea and sunset. Entertainment was low key which was fine by us, got the bus into Rethymno a couple of times, a lovely bustling place. Took a trip to Chania and Lake Kournas both beautiful and worth doing. I agree there is a lacking of sunbeds by the pool but plenty by the beach depending upon your preference. We are early risers and always managed to get a bed by the pool. Do not reserve beds with towels before breakfast as your belongings will be removed! Overall a very well run hotel, the staff work very hard and we had a fabulous time.

Fabulous hotel - need more pool beds

Lovely new 5* hotel on eastern outskirts of Rethymno centre. Our room had sea view and jacuzzi with extremely comfortable beds. Food was very good perhaps repetitive if staying for 2 weeks but was all very high quality in beautiful outside restaurant overlooking the beach. The hotel staff were very attentive and friendly. Upon arrival our cases were taken to our room and we were offered complimentary drink whilst our passports were logged and room keys sorted. Rooms all have smart TVs and wifi. Pool and beach beds very comfortable with deep padding and drinks and food delivered to your sunbed via hotel App. Overall hotel had a quality feel, great facilities, nice food and drink and friendly staff. Beach does have some large underwater rocks that hinder access to the sea. I’d certainly recommend but would like to offer some areas that require attention:- there are insufficient sunbeds around the pool for the volume of guests, so often had to get a bed on the beach but these were very crowded next to each other. There is grass space near the pool they could be used accommodate sunbeds during peak times. Evening entertainment is very low key and consisted of solo guitarist or keyboard players- very soothing but don’t go here if want lively entertainment and there are not many lively bars outside the hotel. We caught bus into Rethymnon couple of nights (€1.20 each) which has great old town and port and lots of bars and restaurants- taxi back was €15. My only other moan is that we had to vacate room at 11am on final day but coach didn’t collect us until 7pm. Hotel couldn’t extend the room so had to use gym showers which was okay but this was not a 5* experience on last day! Finally wifi isn’t great on the beach beds had to use 4G data - needs sorting please

Very good 4 + hotel!

We overall are very satisfied with our stay! We booked a frontal sea room view and got exactly the top floor room we wanted after having corresponded with Katerina, Front Office Manager. That was greatly appreciated! The positives: New modern hotel - overall very kind and efficient personnel - very nice spacious hi tech sound proofed rooms - great beds/bedding - Frontal rooms are really worth the money; quiet and even when the windows are shut you can hear the waves :) Mosquito sliding door is a plus Nice bathroom with double sink - Great shower - Enough storage space - Safe with light and plug to charge your I-phone/I-Pad Excellent breakfast - lots of choice (we put on weight.... :( ) Very good dinner - sometimes a bit repetitive but they are really trying hard! We loved the Greek deserts!!!! Nice lunch options (restaurant near the beach) - apart from the club sandwich... Very nice indoor pool with hammam and Turkish bath (ice machine, shower facilities, etc...) My husband had a haircut at the Amaryllis hair salon and was very satisfied. The negatives: We did not get the "wow factor" when entering the hotel (especially @ reception area) Furniture choice and decoration at reception and in bedrooms not of very good taste and quality (apart from the beds); Very strange hanging plastic lights in bedrooms - wood would have been a better option Beware that it is hard to enter/swim in the sea as it is very rocky (even with adequate shoes) The girls from customer service are very young and not very professional Some suggestions for the hotel management: Don't allow people to smoke on the room terraces - our neighbours were smoking cigars and it was really annoying Install some devices in order to hang wet clothes/towels on the terraces Install more separations between each room - no privacy (only one room on three gets a panel - especially the top floors) Review the "parasol policy" on the beach on windy days People got very upset when the "beach boys" ask you to close the parasols for "security reasons" The hotel should know that northern Crete can be very windy - make sure the parasols are wind resistant and well fixed (we never experienced this before - we are well travelled....) Thank you!
