Hotelli sijaitsee Rethymnonin pitkän hiekkarannan ohi kulkevan rantatien varrella. Ylität tien ja olet heti rannalla, jossa on vuokrattavana rantatuoleja. Hotellin ravintola palvelee myös rannalla, jonne voit tilata juotavaa ja pientä syötävää. Rantaa myötäilee leveä kävelykatu, jota pitkin pääsee vanhaan kaupunkiin, johon hotellilta on alle 1,5 km. Hotellin henkilökunta on ystävällistä ja toteutti jopa toiveemme haluamastamme huoneesta. Huoneet ovat modernisti kalustettuja ja siistejä. Siivous toimi erinomaisesti. Vaikka rantakatu on vilkkaasti liikennöity, olivat huoneet hiljaisia.
Beautiful Hotel and Support a Local Family Business
This is just a great little hotel - despite being right on the main road just over from the beach (this is a positive point), there is no noise in the rooms from the road or other residents. We arrived past midnight and had a great reception from Dino. Rooms are spotless, well appointed and well looked after for our full stay. We paid for a late check out as our flight wasn’t until midnight and this was no problem and not expensive. All questions were well answered by Maria’s x 2 and the lovely Athanasia who is clearly passionate about the hotel and her family links. Couldn’t have wanted more from our stay.
The View!
Sea view matters. I have been passing by this hotel for years, envying the people sitting in chairs in these front sea view loggias of Steris hotel, and wishing I had been there. I would drink sweet wine and eat kefalotyri cheese at sunset and night and watching vawes, I thought. Finally I decided to pay the price and spend 7 days there, although I felt guilty for betraying my old landlady from next door hotel. But if I didn't try, I would never know. The price is double compared my landlady, but one would have paid tripple or quadruple price in Milano or Berlin for ordinary 2 stars room. „Objectively“ the prices in Steris are good value compared to above mentioned cities, in the peak of the season. I booked First minute. State of my finances suddenly deteriorated, however, after Easter, so I was a bit nervous about my decision. No way back, though. When you swim in the beach you can see your loggia so close to the beach is the hotel. Between the 7,5 km city beach and the hotel there is Strand Road with two lanes which operates as 6 lanes in continental motorway. People overtake cars and bikes in both direction, can temporarily park on both sides, shuttle buses stop and take suitcase in the middle of the road, locals ride bikes with no helmet, in sandals and holding mobile phone in our hand and cigarette in the other, and still no traffic accidents, and turists can cross the street slowly as holy cows with no honking and cursing from drivers: it is island mentality. I like balconies and loggias looking at the strand roads. Since it is one of main roads and this is Crete's third largest city, so it is normal for the road be busy. If one doesn't want noise, than they should take a house in the wood. So, I decided to consume that famous sea view as much as I could. Like a poor Roma boy invited to Christmas dinner and who eats until food comes out though his ears. I didn't want to waste any minute of it. And it's magnificent, specially on II and III floor. Kitchenette was fairly well equipped. I decided to help water preservation and used only 1 set of towels and asked for no changing bed sheets. I asked for a kitchen cloth and dish-washing liquid, but I didn't get it. I wanted to do the dishes on my own. I didn't cook much, and I survived using serviettes. Bathroom is spacious, with many sharp edges which are not recommendable for elderly people, I think. Enough sockets and functional lighting, with two ways to light the bathroom: besides main light (with ventilation fan) there is a cool discrete ceiling lights which enables you to use the bathroom without fan noise. Toilletery (excellent herbal har&body foam) is of high quality. I never figured out how loggia lamp functions and how it is turned off. (Mea culpa, I come from an unergonomic part of Europe.) I wanted a sign „Do Not Disturb“ for my door knob, and of the ladies at the reception explained to me (to my embarrassment) that I should touch the button in my room, and really, I overlooked Star Trek option on two buttons on the wall. However, there is a bag in system – when you leave the room and take out the card from socket, there is no electricity, so Star Trek sign in the corridor doesn't glow any longer. First day I said at the receptionist I don't want my room cleaned (my own apartment is in a mess, so I am happy with one set of towels for a week, but when I returned to my room, it looks the cleaning lady began to do the room because she „wasn't informed in time“. She apologized, but I apologized to her several days later, too, since I maybe was rude, nervous when someone touches my staff. But the cleaning ladies here are nice in Rethymno, local working women, and I ironed out, I think, for I snapped. I forgot to mentioned bathrobe and slippers (one time used, I hope) at guest's disposal. The minuses are trifles. There is no writing desk. I had to bring loggia table in to work on my laptop. Salon table was too short. The TV was rather small. Sometimes I lost the sound on only film channel I had, STAR HD, I never didn't figure out why. Last night I missed a movie on that channel. Perhaps neighbours complained because I kept TV turned at all times, on STAR channel, but that would be ludicrous. So I can only wish I sometime in the future will again be able to afford that petit-bourgeiois longing of mine, longing of my once hungry eyes, that is – a sea view room in Strand Road of Rethymno. I had a feeling it was my last long journey in European summer. The prices go up, we bring potassium iodide with us, all sorts of World's dictators conspired to destroy the only pleasure which extinguished low middle class was able to be looking forward since the end of WW 2 – holiday in the sun. Security problems, pandemics, war. And I only want ice cold Mythos beer on a Greek beach. Is it too much? Ok, one more info: elevator has room for one person and luggage. But since there are only 3 levels, you don't have to wait much.
