Great, clean, "family friendly"

We've had a great time (family with two young kids)! Very clean appartments. Helpful and friendly staff. Nearby all restaurants, bars and shops. Great food and milkshakes in the restaurant of the appartment. The appartment has a beautiful well maintained garden with all sorts of trees and flowers.

Great hotel in an area for young adults (WARNING! READ IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN THIS HOTEL AS A COUPLE WITH YOUNG KIDS!)

A short summary for those who don't want to read the whole thing: the hotel is lovely, located nearby a lively centre. The beach is a little bit further than said. No noise complaints whatsoever, the people are super friendly and the one-room apartments are big enough for two people. The matresses are a little hard and the shower is small. Kitchen is adviced not to be used for dinner. A/C is quite expensive but necessary, so is the safe. The breakfast at the pool-bar is lovely. The hotel is good for kids, however the area is not. It's a very nice place to go for people of 18 years old and above. I stayed at this hotel for 8 days, from the 19th of June to the 26th of June. The hotel is situated in a way that you don't suffer from any noise of the town nearby even though it's really easy to walk straight into the busy streets. The information says the beach is 150 meters from the hotel, which I guess is correct if you drew a straight line from the hotel to the beach. However, because of the paths you're supposed to walk towards the beach, it's a bit longer. It's still quite close though, and easy to go to, even in the hot sun. We had the room closest to the reception, but never suffered from any noise from other guests, or from the hotel Triton which I've read about in other reviews (ofcourse neither are completely silent, but noise which is made is not an issue). The family that runs the hotel is very nice, and always willing to help you out and serve you, or even just have a chat. They're very welcome and relaxed and don't rush you into paying for anything, as long as you pay for it eventually. We had a one-room apartment, which was in our believe big enough for two people. I saw some other reviews complaining that the one-room apartments were too small, but this was in our opinion not the case. There was a kitchen which was good enough to make lunch or breakfast on, I would recommend just going out to eat somewhere for dinner however instead of cooking dinner at the kitchen. There were two seperate beds, which I must admit had some pretty hard matresses, and a big closet. There was a seperate bathroom with a toilet, a sink with a mirror and a shower. The shower is a little small, and you have the choice of either getting the floor wet, or having the shower curtain stick to your body sometimes. I would advice the hotel to replace the shower curtains, our curtain had orange stains on it. The price for air-conditioning is 6€ a day, which is pretty much but split in two, it was managable. The price for a safe is 25€ a week. I would recommend getting both, because even though it's a lot, without either you wouldn't survive in your own room. The cleaning lady comes every day, around noon and the hotel isn't responsible for loss of items. I'm not saying that the cleaning lady is not to be trusted, but they don't put that disclaimer there for no reason. The AC is obviously needed to keep you from melting. The breakfast which is added to the stay is minimalistic but very nice. The woman that runs the pool-bar gets up at 6 AM every morning to prepare fresh breakfast for every-one and it's obvious she's gotten skilled at it. No complaints on the breakfast whatsoever. They had some adorable stray cats roaming the hotel, that you'd only really see at breakfast to beg for food or at night, when it had cooled down a little. If you're looking for any restaurants nearby to go and eat, I would 100% recommend "Kalispera Garden" or "Taverna Kalispera", which is /really/ close to the hotel, and "Napolitana", which is in the main-street, to the right on your way to the local supermarket. The waiters in both restaurants were super nice and happy to serve you some local Ouzo or Blue Lagoon (alcohol) with your check. WARNING! I must add, and this is very, very important for any parents with under-age children who might be interested in staying here: the hotel is great, and there's a nice pool for your kids to swim and play in, HOWEVER the area is not suited for underage children in my opinion to any extent. The beach nearby has some sharp rocks and a strong current, the streets are filled with night-clubs and there really isn't much for kids to do. I would recommend going to another city, or maybe another area, but in my opinion the area, not the hotel, but the area, is not suited for small or underaged kids. That being said, this area is much focused on young adults, or kids above the age of 18, which was great because there's a lot to do. You have a lot of freedom as a young adult in this neighbourhood. There's lots of opportunities to eat somewhere nice, party in a club, drink and cruise the streets on quads. The streets are crowded with people any time past midnight and it creates a very nice atmosphere for people who like to drink and go out. In conclusion, I was very satisfied with the hotel. I was surprised to see small kids running around the hotel, given that the area is certainly not appropriate for small kids, but didn't feel bothered by them. I would recommend this hotel to any young adults wishing to have a vacation to either relax or go out and party, and I would come here again.

Feeling home

3rd time visited Golden Bay. Always feeling home by Maria, Manos and the rest of the family. Good breakfast and choice enough. Studios as well as 2 rooms apartments are nicely furnished and cleaned good and very regularly. Garden is well kept green, lovely.

Charlie's Boat trip.

We visited Golden Bay today. It was brilliant but the highlight had to be the trip on Charlie's boat to the cace that turns your skin blue! Charlie is so funny and enthusiastic it's his mission to make sure you enjoy yourself and we certainly did! We had a great trip out in his very speedy sped boat and a twenty minute swim in the lagoon which was awesome! All for €12, fantastic!

Expected More...

First impressions were good, clean and friendly staff! Photos are a little misleading, we all definitely expected a lot more! Location was not suitable for a family holiday especially as malias strip is round the corner. Beaches located near by were very disappointing mainly due to the strength of the waves- very hard to swim in. The town next to Malia (Stalis) is a definitely more suitable place for families and in my opinion a better place to enjoy a holiday to Crete, especially if you want to enjoy the more traditional aspect of the island. Wouldn't recommend this hotel and definitely wasn't worth the money
