Thank you so much gouves bay hotel for making our two weeks stay so enjoyable. Met on arrival by a very pleasant young lady receptionist who explained how the hotel was run and allocated our room 213.A really nice clean modern room overlooking the front of the hotel. Our maid was fantastic and cleaned our room every day to a high standard. We very much enjoyed the lovely food that was on offer at every sitting. The pool bar drinks where nice and the barmaid was very friendly and kept us well hydrated. The pool area was lovely but we decided to do our sunbathing in the gorgeous gardens at the bottom near the sea. It was so relaxing and you could always get a sunbed no matter what time you got up. We decided to catch the bus one day into hersonissos and the senior lady with glasses on reception was so helpful. She gave us all the information we needed and also printed it off for us. All the staff the work there are a credit to the hotel. We had a fabulous two weeks a would not hesitate to return. A big thank you to you all. John and Sharron.
Gouves Bay it s nice place to have 1 week holiday off. It´s optimal hotel to enjoy sun and all inclusive offers they have. That means they have nice buffet which varies every day and there is allways something different to eat everyday (fish section was boring or too cheap quality). There was beef, whole duck, pork meat which was soft, plenty of salads and desserts/ice cream to eat. Oven fried potatoes was swimming in oil same as bolognese sauce. Breakfast is all the time same ofcourse but also okey choices to eat(sometimes fried eggs running out. Scrammbled eggs was really weird not good taste) . You can have all inclusive drinks from outside bar section till 23:00 pm for free plus non alcohol drinks to enjoy. We really liked that option. I dint´t like juices which was too sugary for me. They have some entertainment programs every evening and the best one was with live band playing. Other nights are not so interesting but okey to be there. We were actually happy to have room 509 which is view to garden not pool side because it s quiet and sun comes in the evening time to balcony(beds were good to sleep). It s second floor so the first floor which is down is not so good option to take. Also becaus of hungry cats sneaking around. Room had mini fridge to keep drinks cold. There was kettle without any power source to use :D which was so funny projecteering fun from hotel. There was no TV channels and we asked to fix them. Next day they said it s fixed. Ofcourse not :D This is typical Crete as we asked to have small sign to put outside door callled „Do Not Disturb“ which never came ofcourse so we improved by using paper and write own to put out. They give you one door key to use so basically you can put any other card to room socket or even piece of paper to keep power on :D Crete Trick! WiFi was working good so we could use our country tv channels as streaming them though tv. There is stoney beach but check waves before going. There is also around 400 m bus station which goes to capital city 2.20 eur per face. Be aware that it can take forever to get in bus and back.
Not bad for family holiday! Pool is ok, food also OK and the staff are nice!
Nice place. Walking distance from the Beach. Cleaning ok but can be improved ! Free easy parking! We went there Mai 2022 for one week with 2 small kids. Was not too busy, there is a playground for kids to play, was helpful!
A Basic 3* hotel at best.
Rooms: We had to move rooms on arrival as the view on the balcony was of a pile of rubbish dumped in bushes next to the children's play area and literally a view in a tree. Room 306 We got moved to a room next door (307) facing the front of the hotel car park. It had a better view but the rooms in block 300 are very dated they NEED a full refit. Don't bother viewing them and ask for a different room in main hotel. I wish we had earlier on as the constant buzzing noise outside the main hotel all day was driving me crazy. No idea what it is but everyone kept looking about to see what it was. It's very disturbing and needs looking in to. The shower went all over the floor when in use as there's no shower screen or curtains. Also excess water and foam come up the vent in the middle of the bathroom floor when the showers in use. The tap was bent as it constantly runs unless pressed down hard to stop it running. So it's clearly been an issue for a while and nobody has bothered to repair it. My mum's house room (308) the Shower holder is broken completely which the maid is surely aware of as she cleans it daily and hasn't done anything about it. No way to hold it on the wall. The grouting on the floor through the bathroom needs bleaching as it was yellow not very pleasant at all to look at. Also a dirty toilet brush not acceptable for a so called 4* hotel I'm afraid. (See photos for above) Food and Drink: Food: The food offered for Lunch was good as was evening meals with meat varieties of Chicken, Pork, Beef and Duck. Hot food though is can be luke warm at best sometimes. Various Salad items, breads, chips, fruit and desserts like ice cream, cream cake and local specialties. The Breakfast was the same everyday. Bacon is rather fatty. The food thought the whole stay was luke warm with cold fried eggs on several occasions at breakfast. The Chef fails at times to keep a check of food levels. One morning no Bacon or fried eggs as they had not been refilled. Then the eggs were cold. Continental breakfast of cheese, meats, bread, fruits along with salads. Drinks: The drinks had a decent selection of Local Spirits and Beer of decent strength. Selection of cocktails on the menu along with long drinks and soft drinks included water. Premium drinks could be ordered for a fee. There was only one bar open which was the pool bar 11am-11pm with 2 drinks per person in small plastic disposable cups. The bar staff are very friendly especially Savena and Kostas we loved being served by them every night a big so a big Thank You to them. Hotel: The entertainment throughout the day I saw Darts and Volleyball been played. The entertainment guy (Jordan) asked if you wished to play but you were left alone if disinterested. Music on from the bar during the day. Quite a few songs saying n***** and f*** so be prepared to be shocked. The grounds where clean throughout. From the front the place looks like a Hostel. On a night they had Live singers, Bingo, Karaoke,Music Quiz, Movie theme quiz. The highlight of entertainment was The Magician David Maestro. All the entertainment is done by the pool bar. Grab a table early as there only a few. Otherwise you would have to sit on a sunbed. The restaurant which I saw several spills cleaned up quickly by restaurant staff. The old guy in the restaurant just wanders about and wasn't very approachable. Saw him several times with a water spray bottle spraying it at the cats very unprofessional. Saw this happen several times to the cats very cruel. Housekeeping was to a good standard with fresh towels and shower gel/shampoo daily. Bedding needed changing more often. The WiFi is awful the worse I've come across in years. It really needs sorting the signal constantly drops in most areas of the hotel. How can you present yourselves as a 4* hotel and not have a decent WiFi connection? The other main issue is the transfer bus drops you off at the back of the hotel (due to no front access for buses at front) so you have to walk 5 mins from the road to reception to check in. Not ideal at all for anybody with mobility issues. The beach is non existent across the road it's large pebbles, large rocks and no sand. So don't expect to see a sandy beach when you arrive. You can access the large pebble beach in beach shoes but you're better exiting right from hotel rear and follow the road for 10 minutes to two sandy beaches nearby. Local payable to use the sunbeds so take your towel if not. If I had known the beach was that bad across from the hotel I would not have booked and gone elsewhere. Towels are not supplied by this hotel. I believe you can rent them from reception. Also safety deposit boxes are payable as is hotel tax on arrival. The older woman with glasses on reception was very rude and abrupt, when it came to asking for a towel to use in the courtesy room. Seemed very disinterested and unfriendly. Not a good last impression of the place. (Sept 28th 6pm) Quite a few issues that I would not have expected to experience from a so called 4* hotel. Would I return in the future? No as the hotel in my option is a Basic 3* and nowhere near 4* basic standards across the hotel due to the dated rooms, WiFi, issues with cold food and what is offered especially with no beach as advertised. The place is a bit of a joke really, I have come across much better 4* hotels for the same price or less from various European countries I have stayed at.
The hotel is lovely, we had a really nice holiday here. Rooms bright and clean maid comes everyday and can get fresh towels etc everyday if you leave on the floor. The reception staff are nice and helpful and the seating areas/pool table available also nicely decorated . The pool area was really relaxed and easy to get a bed etc even if you got up late plenty of places even down the bottom where its very chilled out away from the pool and bar. The restaurant was also nice we enjoyed the food we did eat out most nights as we personally said before we arrived we wanted to explore the local taverna’s which are amazing we followed a group on fb gouves life and got recommendations from there would recommend. The location of the hotel is pretty good right on the beach and shops/restaurants both to the right and left a walk from hotel and we got the local bus out too which is not far from hotel and cheap. On last day we paid for late check out as wasn’t leaving till 20:30 this was really helpful and meant we enjoyed our last day a bit more so thank you. We read on previous reviews they take the all inclusive bands off you early on last day we was worried about this as we didnt arrive till midnight the day we spent travelling however I think they have now changed this as we kept ours which i think is very fair as you don’t benefit at all on arrival day if you arrive in night. Overall we would probably come back it was very nice holiday.
