Great location

Stayed for one week in October 2022. Stayed B&B. Converted manor house building, so lots of lovely features. Room a good size and had everything we required. Booked a garden view room, so were pleasantly surprised that our room also had a sea view which we could enjoy from the balcony. Great location in the old town - with plenty of restaurants nearby. Breakfast not as extensive as other hotels we have stayed in, but fine. Lovely to sit on the terrace and eat breakfast in the morning enjoying the views over Funchal. Housekeeping was excellent. Couple of downsides - reception staff weren't overly friendly (housekeeping & other staff were) and air conditioning wasn't working during our stay. Most complicated (and dated) remote control light system I've experienced in a hotel before! Despite these couple of aspects overall we had an excellent stay and would return.

Not a friendly hotel and a lousy breakfast.

The hotelbuilding was nice and the rooms were good. The stuff was really unpolite , nobody said ”Good morning”or never smiling.No service at the pool.The only friendly person was the cleaninglady. The breakfast had not a standard for such a hotel, a few fruits and vegetables and some bread .No marmalade. They said seriously to us that dresscode at the christmasdinner is tuxido and of course we did not have that with us so we went to a nice restaurant in the town instead. Before we left we looked at the other guests and nobody had tuxedo!!!!Really bad information and noflexibility.

Avoid - it’s a scam

Hotel deliberately books guests in to sister hotel, which is 12km out of Funchal - nice views but in the middle of nowhere so taxis to get into town. Hotels.com no help either as alternate hotel is (allegedly) higher rating. Please beware when booking this hotel as you may well not end up staying here!

Second visit

Second time at this hotel and not disappointed, staff have it right,helpful if you need help,but don't pester,room a good size with plenty of wardrobe space.The housekeeping staff were brilliant kept the rooms clean and tidy. We only stayed bed and breakfast but plenty of choice to fill you up.Lovey 10 minute stroll into the old town. Won't hesitate to visit again next year.

Avoid if you like hot food

Very disappointed at the standard of food. The breakfast was barely warm so after a couple of mornings I asked for the whole plate to be put in the microwave oven which they did and made it more acceptable... apart from the eggs!. The evening meal always featured fish or rice. Again the food temperature left lot to be desired. Sometimes part of the food was lukewarm while other parts were hot-ish!. Most meals were very same/same with little flavour. On the plus side you could ask for an alternative which was more acceptable but I only found this out from a friend in our party, not obvious on the menu. The hotel lacked atmosphere with no background music or any type of entertainment. Once your poor meal was over, that was it!. Our organiser asked if it would be okay to hold a quiz and they refused saying there was no room to hold it in when actually their bar area was empty most times of any other guests. Swimming pool was okay but quite deep so anyone could quickly become out of their depth. Cleanliness was satisfactory. The room was quite big but very dark with only 3 bedside type bulb lights. The TV was good but only offered world news type programs. I tried to tether it to my phone but that proved impossible with not being able to navigate the menus as they didn't respond to the remote. The air-conditioning didn't work. The best part was the room outlook. Although we didn't pay for a seaview we got one anyway with views on the garden and harbour. The shower and wash facilities were very good with plenty of instant hot water. By and large a hotel to miss off your list.
