This hotel is in an ideal location, walking distance to sites, restaurants, and shopping. The breakfast is in a beautiful, high ceiling room with murals. There was so much to choose from, including multiple fresh berries, melons, and other fruits… high end cheese, pastries, vegetarian salads, and the usual eggs and bacon. There was plenty of space and it was just an outstanding start to the day. Our rooms faced internally so we did not have noise. Lighting in the rooms isn’t great. The bathrooms are huge and a great layout for drying some hand washed laundry. They have a same-day laundry service during weekdays. There is only one laundromat in Bergen and it’s not close, and it’s closed on Sundays. My only major complaint is that a lot of cruise passengers stay here. No offense to my fellow Americans, but the difference in clientele from other places we stayed was obvious. The lobby was overloaded at times, and there were lots of demands being made at the front desk. Those poor workers- they are saints.
wonderful, helpful staff
This in a great location and the staff is so friendly, they have a way of making you feel important and very welcome. The room was clean and cool and the dining room has beautiful frescoes on enormous walls and an incredible breakfast buffet. I would stay here again if the opportunity presented itself.
Unique hotel in central location
The former Bourse building provides a wonderful location in the heart of Bergen. It is close to fish market, Unesco heritage site and shopping areas. The huge ballroom used for breakfast has breathtaking murals and offered many food selections, fresh juice and excellent coffee. Rooms are small but modern. The reception desk gladly phoned for a dinner reservation for us, and
Elegant and centrally located
Our one regret with this elegant, old-school hotel was not being able to stay more than one quick night here. Them's were the breaks as we were on the express version of the Norway in a Nutshell tour package. Bergen was a charming city and more manageable than Oslo to explore, but because transport through the fjords was time-consuming, Jamie W. and I just had a half-day in Bergen. That wasn't a nutshell experience, it was a nutcracker if you know what I mean. Good thing this hotel was such a visual delight as it was the city's old stock exchange building a couple of centuries back. It was transformed into a neo-Renaissance style with nice contemporary changes. Our Standard Double room was simple and comfortable. The going rate was about $160 per night. More importantly, it was centrally located right across the street from the fish market and down the street from Bryggen. Sadly, because we had an early morning train, we had to miss out on the breakfast buffet as the hotel has a Michelin starred restaurant (Bare). The front desk staff was very good though, as they had a takeout bag prepared for us and coordinated our luggage pickup. Hopefully we'll have a longer stay next time.
Nice hotel but staff all seemed to be in training and gave incorrect information regarding important things.
When we arrived at this hotel we were spending one day after a Viking Cruise and were leaving the next day to fly out of Bergen to London and back to the US. Since we had been on a cruise where we didn’t need electrical adapters we had none and they had “already given them out” and when we searched in a store they recommended they had none so we had no way to charge any electronics, watches, phones, computers, etc. We asked for a wake-up call at least (no clock in the room and no way to use ANY electrical devices and the call came over 30 minutes late. Then there was a debacle with they cab they called for us. Not good when you have to get to the airport. We had no breakfast that was supposed to be included because it didn’t open until 8am and we had to leave at 8am. They said the breakfast should open earlier and it did not. The night before they made guests use a side entrance because they had a special dinner for an outside group AND we could not get dinner or even drinks in the hotel because of this. Although the hotel was beautiful we were not treated well and were given a lot of misinformation. Would not recommend staying there for all of these reasons.
