Back to the future ! Visited this hotel 10 years ago and returned this year in 2020... what’s changed? Well nothing... zero... except everything has aged ten years.. worn out carpets, bland food, bland staff.. it’s just lifeless. The WORST part though is the spa facility’s ... you can go and have a sauna a swim and a steam room then go and shower ... but!!! They don’t provide shampoo or soap or anything , just hot water ! I would actually say this is illegal but I’m past caring as I will never return here nor any Vila gale on the basis of lack of investment . Truely shocking not to provide basic hygiene products in a spa.

I know this hotel since it was opened. The quality has been the same, the most high quality for a 4 stars hotel. The staff, most of them since the beginning, are very professional and at the same time, kind. This 4 star hotel is almost a five star, it is located in an ocean-side with swimming pool and astonishing views. It is in the village of Santa Cruz, 3 kms from Madeira Airport and 25 kms from Funchal, the Capital City of the Island. They offer a daily scheduled free service between Hotel-Funchal-Hotel at different times during day. Most every night they have shows at the bar and several entertainments. A buffet restaurant offers local and international cuisine. Great quality breakfast.
Xmas and new year in Madeira
Just leaving Vila Gale Hotel in Santa Cruz after 11 nights celebrating Christmas and New Year. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff are really friendly and cannot do enough to help you. The food is good and the local wines and spirits in the AI are a better quality than one gets elsewhere. The A La Carte restaurant is available and if you stay for more than 7 nights you get one free visit. We didn't.use the spa or gym so we cannot comment on them. Of special note should be Sandra and Duarte who look after the bar. The restaurant Managers are always attentive and welcome everybody every meal time. We thoroughly recommend this hotel. Regarding Santa Cruz, this sleepy little village is also spotlessly clean with lots of little cafes and bars if you need a change from the hotel. We will probably come here again .
Really Great Hotel
We are just back from a great week in this wonderful Hotel in Santa Cruz and Madeira. The rooms were very comfortable, All. the Staff were very friendly and the food was excellent with lots of choices. We had a hire car, so we were not reliant on the Hotel Shuttle. We always managed to find free public parking at the side of the hotel otherwise the 4 hotel parking spaces were always full. A great international feel with guests holidays from all over Europe and beyond. The Town of Santa Cruz is also lovely with lots of good eating places and cafes.
We arrived at around 13.00 and were the only two people checking-in. The guy checking us in had very little interest in doing his job and made that very obvious.What a FIRST IMPRESSION. After taking our things to our room we went to lunch what a joke.Only one small unit with very little selection,this was the usual water bath type display unit EXCEPT THIS ONE HAD NO WATER AND NO HEATING just left to get cold. We had fish from the grill it was totally raw in the centre. What a poor start. We returned to our room where we had left a mobile phone on charge only to find that the key card had been removed from the electric switch and CUT IN HALF good job we hadnt left any lights on who knows what would have happened to us. We had the exact same problems with the food from the grill for the next two days when we decided it was not worth the hassle. The breakfast food was always cold probably because of the non-heated unit. Now for the good bits.a very nice hotel kept very clean and for the most part excellent staff. It is being spoiled by the poor food and a couple of bad staff members and no visible management.
