Practically perfect Porto Lygia
Just returned (5-12 June) from a wonderful week here. This delightful hotel is in an enviable position right on the beach, lovely views, easy access to several Tavernas and the bus towards either Lefkada Town or Nydri or Vasiliki. The staff are charming and helpful, it is extremely clean and the rooms are simple but comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with so much choice of fruit, yoghurt, cereals, breads, croissants, cakes, biscuits, cheese, ham, boiled eggs and good choice of teas, coffee and juice - all replenished frequently. Like everything else at the Hotel it was extremely laid back and you could return as many times as you wished. On the subject of ‘laid back’ it does mean that you have to ask about everything as there is no information pack in your room or menus out for drinks or other food on offer! Because, as we discovered we were there pre-season the outside bar wasn’t open so maybe this would change when it was. Examples of things you wouldn’t know unless you asked - beach towels are provided, someone needs to come and unlock your safe. In some ways all this adds to the charm but personally I think British people find it quite difficult to keep asking about things as we feel as if we are being a nuisance! You can’t book trips through the hotel (we were there independently) but they will obviously book taxis. 10 Euros to or from Lefkada and 15 to or from Nydri. With regard to pre-season this did mean that it was the winter bus timetable, some tavernas, shops and ferry services weren’t open or running yet. Full season begins in 2019 on 15 June. Things that would have made our stay even better: *Kettle in the room *A more up to date shower - it is a tiny tray with a curtain that is difficult to keep within! *A mat or walkway in to the sea (as they have on the public beach to the left of the hotel) - it is extremely pebbly and uneven getting in to the sea so beach shoes are a must. We are admittedly not now as agile as we would like and one of us has 2 new knees so this is more of an issue for people such as us. *information pack in the room We were in Room 206 on the top floor which would probably be considered the worst of the sea view rooms but it still had quite a wide vista of the sea and scenery albeit to the side. Nice size balcony and comfortable chairs, Towels, sheets changed daily and basic toiletries provided. Comfortable bed, plenty of cupboard and drawer space (a few more hangers would have been good) and a smallish but very quiet fridge. Like everywhere else kept very clean. We will certainly be returning to Porto Lygia if we have another trip to Lefkada!
Booked a ‘cheap’ holiday, earlier than we normally travel due to personal commitments, arrived late (11.45pm) due to complications with our hire car but we were greeted with such courtesy and care, managed to get a quick beer before bed. We were given a choice of rooms and chose the one overlooking the bat and garden. The staff are so helpful and polite, the breakfast is continental, nothing hot, but fresh and enjoyable. The hotel is very clean, the beach is not a natural beach but the views are amazing. This is a great hotel for people to relax, or as a base to explore Lefkada, a beautiful, green, unspoilt island. My wife and I will return it has been great.
Nice hotel run by an idiot
Nice hotel, next to the sea, rooms ok, breakfast good, not a great location as nothing nearby apart from a few tavernas, really need to travel to the next towns, which are quite away away, had a good holiday here except from when approx 20 young polish decended on the hotel, shouting screaming having sex and just being animals, the hotel owner at the time said “what’s the problem” what you have to understand is this hotel is I run by two brothers, one is really quite professional and polite ( has a beard) the other is an incompetent idiot who is Greece’s answer to Bob Marley, such a shame, he really lets the side down, he needs to be bought out and sent on his way.
Decent choice with nice beach
Stayed for a fortnight on a package deal. First impressions were not great: tired after a long journey, we were greeted in perfunctory style and given directions to the room via a rather dirty lift. We discovered that the safe was locked, and fridge and aircon did not seem to be working. Man behind reception did slightly grudgingly come and sort everything out. The hotel was not busy at the time so I'm sure he could have spared 3 minutes away from the desk to do what he ended up doing anyway. (They later told us that this is because they only have one receptionist on duty at any time.) Subsequently, we had a very nice time here. The hotel front is very attractive with a nice pool and great views with its own private beach (don't worry about the sea urchins: I only spotted two in our time there). The bar serves snacks and sandwiches which we found perfectly adequate, and the service was pleasant. Our room was quite comfortable but at the back of the hotel with a tree directly outside (behind that a petrol station on the main road; no mountain view) so do ask for a poolside room as it is worth a premium (great view and quieter). The room cleaners were absolutely lovely - bravo. The bathroom was better than some other 3* Greek hotels; everything worked. The hotel was full but it was easy to get seats under a shade on the grass by the beach. Hotel location means that you can walk to 6-7 tavernas within 10 minutes along the seafront, but the smaller restaurants do fill up so book the smaller ones to avoid disappointment. You can also walk to a nearby salt lagoon with herons, egrets and fish, within 20 minutes. If you are very energetic, you can walk to Lefkas Town in 70 minutes, but there is a bus service. Overall, this was a good value 3* hotel that I would book again. Some more attention to greeting guests would make things even better.
We've just returned from our vacation in Greece. I will write exclusively about the hotel. As someone wrote, it's a 70's hotel. We travelled with our child, 12 years old. We were assured that we will have a room for 3 guests, but no. The rooms are only for two guests. An extra bed was in the room which shrinked a lot the space. The wardrobe was old and kind of smelly. The bathroom is way too small and smelled strange. The door didn't close well and every day, when the room was cleaned, they didn't close the door with the key. The breakfast was the same every day. Except the coffee, there was nothing cooked, only boilled eggs. From this point of view, I didn't mind as I ate mostly yoghourt. The pool furniture is also old. Overall, our stay was ok-ish thanks to the pool and the sea which is very close. But the hotel needs badly improvements.
