Definitely not a five star...was fine for a short stay, but nothing out of the ordinary. Taxis €5 into town, which was good. Breakfast okay, pool was fine ( and quiet) - beach access across a main road. Just nothing memorable about the hotel...
Not quite 5 star
We had a quick check in, were taken to get our complementary welcome drinks and shown around the hotel by the friendly Christos. We were then shown to our room 201 and given some free fruit and bottle of wine, which was a nice touch. I was not happy with the room straight away as it was level with the street and more of a street view than sea view. People from the street look in so lack of privacy as well. I informed reception and they asked to speak to the manager in the evening who sorted out a room higher up above the restaurant but it was only available in two days time, we went for this. In the two days we heard quite a bit of road noise but it does calm down by night. However could hear next door/upstairs balcony conversations and the room is right next to the side entrance and you had inconsiderate guests slamming the gates early hours of the morning. The room has no soundproofing which is disappointing for a five star. I would have complained but thankfully we were moving room soon anyway. Think they should consider closing this entrance completely after 11pm as people pay no notice to the sign to close the gate quietly. Our next room, 107 was much better and an acutal sea view but we were given a twin bed, which was changed upon informing them, this could have been avoided as we obviously wanted the same bed as before. The staff did kindly move our luggage for us while we were out on a tour. Bed is comfy though, room has a nice balcony, an espresso machine with two shots free and a fridge with one complementary bottle of water. They have a safe, provide slippers and complementary robes on request. Could still hear loud people early morning, so no soundproofing again. The television has only news English channels, weirdly comedy central which is an English channel is dubbed in German, not sure why this is, not a bother though as we were not on holiday to watch TV. The shower head really needed descaling and it was strange in the way it was situated meant that after each shower you would have a wet bethroom floor there was nothing to keep water in the tub and a drain the other side, never seen this before. The air vents were full of dust, I noticed this upon entering, so for a five star hotel that gets cleaned everyday, it should not be missed. The bathtub had wife's hair for two days in a row, questioning if this is cleaned properly. Discovered a very big live cockroach in the bathroom one night, that the hotel staff dealt with promptly, not sure where it came from. Location was great right opposite the beach with a dedicated part to hotel guests that had sunbeds and bar service until 6pm. The sea water is quite cool and not the cleanest but it is good enough to go for a swim. Quite pebbly at the start and can be painful, so if you have swim shoes, would recommend to bring them. A lot of restaurants nearby but not a lot of variety for vegetarians though, just salads mainly, Italian and a noodle place. No Indian, Mexican or vegetarian only cuisine. A few more options in Old Town which is about 30 minutes away. Supermarket next door to get water and snacks. Lots of ATMs nearby but bear in mind all of them charge 2-3 euros. Hotel breakfast had a decent variety for vegetarians, addition of an omelette station and more hot veg like hash browns would make it better. You can even sort out an earlier breakfast for tour days which is very helpful. Dinner was disappointing as it should have more for vegetarians, although there is a decent amount of salad and appetizers, there was very limited mains and it is mainly buffet every day. On the one time we ate dinner there, the maitre d did sort out a nice spaghetti dish for us and we had this plus the salad/starters and desserts buffet for 12 euros each which was great. Had the room service once when we wanted just a small dinner with salads and no complaints, great service from the maitre d again. Did not go to the pool, always seemed busy and it is quite small to what we are used to, the pictures are a bit deceiving. Not an issue though as sea is near. Can book excursions to all around crete through the hotel with pickup, they use klados travel, very competitive prices and lots of options. When booking these excursions the hotel only takes cash or there is klados travel office down the road that should take card. Spa was nice had a good offer on some treatments, we got use of the Turkish bath and amazing jacuzzi as well. Very quick checkout without issues. About a 1 hour 15 from chania airport, think distance is similar for heraklion. Hotel offer transfer service at 90 euros to chania but we got a slightly better price with taxi service rethymno. Overall no question the staff service is five star but it is let down by its problems with the rooms and cleaning, these may be the same as when the hotel was four star and not up to the par of five star. If you are paying more for a premium sea view room, it should be clear sea view without any obvious noise and unfair if one room is far better than another at the same price.
We stayed here for 2 weeks on a half board basis and it was great. Food was very good, room and communal areas were very clean. Private beach was free to use and plenty of sunbeds. The only down side was the pool area was a bit small and crowded. If you could improve the pool/pool area this hotel would be a 10 out of 10. Also staff were amazing in assisting every guest. Thank you! I would definitely recommend and return!
Just stayed here for 1 week . Good base for sightseeing around local area. Just far enough out of the busy town but walkable distance .Lovely hotel with good facilities ,the staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are large and clean with comfortable beds , ours had a decent sized terrace to sit on as well. The buffet breakfasts and dinners had a good selection of well cooked and presented food, just one slight criticism the food has a bias towards the mainly German clientele, we would have preferred more Greek/ Cretan dishes being available. Would highly recommend here and they obviously get many returning guests. The staff who run the restaurant and bar need a special thank you for their attentive service
