Very nice vacation
We have been accommodated in the Apollo - anex building, so I cannot review the accommodation in the main building or the newly build rooms, which were definitely higher standard. The Apollo Anex building was just across the road, building with rooms and sitting area. There was a mini golf in front , rather small but for children why not. The room there was small, but tidy with good AC, balcony, fridge and daily cleaning. The only thing that might be bad was the sound of the elevator, which was very old and loud. It has only 1 floor so it might not even be needed. The main hotel area was nice. Reception was nice, sitting inside was very spacious. Across the main hotel, there was one more building with accommodation and kids pool and regular pool with bar. The pool at the main building was spacious with salty water + there was 1 inside pool that was just next to it. Bar was ok, the all inclusive offers the cheapest alcohol, but you can manage to find something you like and apparently the bear was good. Very light only 3% but light in the summer is probably better. The beach was across the road and before you crossed it there was another bar with seating options. The beach was very small, it was rather a bay .But it you walked 5/10 minutes there was another bigger beach. Food and the restaurant was very good. There was seating inside, outside of the pool area + 2 patios where you could watch the sunset. There was always plenty of food and they kept adding more every time they run out of something. There was something special everyday made fresh so there was a line. But the food was good, they tried to have something slightly different everyday and also plenty of sweets and salads. Animation program was okay too, I didn't participate but every night except for Sunday there was a program and during the day there was as well. There was ping pong, pool and tennis court in the hotel. The village was small but there was plenty of shops for souvenirs or even supermarkets to get something. Couple of pubs and clubs and car renting options within 5 minutes walk. For me I can say it was very nice hotel with friendly staff and I did not have any issues with anything. Arrived at 11 but could go immediately to the room and start feasting.
Lovely place and location but couple of problems
Was ill when arrived asked for upgrade as also went for birthday but they was unfortunately full. To make matters worse I had problems breathing and was put in a room over the road from the main hotel on the first floor. Not ideal but there you go.. Restaurant was good, stunning views of the sunsets. Food pretty normal for all inclusive same with drinks. Beach was lovely as was local area. Shame some of the local bars and shops closing due to AI hotels. Locals are very friendly, Room was basic with no safe. But was ok only problem was air conditioning fan was on balcony so couldn't sit out there
Don't get a room on the ground floor!
When we arrived, we were allocated a room on the first floor, it was room7. The room was badly in need of a make-over. It had a funny smell, the shower screen was 1 inch from the bath, which made the water run all over the floor and in the morning the noise from the Reception was hurrenous. We complained, but was told that we should have been given the choice from 'On the Beach' if we required a refurbished room. This is not an option on 'On the Beach' website. So we paid extra to move upstairs, around 150 euros. This in itself was nicer, there was carpets in the hallway, and a proper shower and no noise. Food was OK, caters more for your German visitors and didn't think much of the drinks. Paid for most of mine, to get a nicer one. There was a creepy older guy just hanging around the place, I can only think he is the father of one of the managers. Kept calling small kids to him, which I thought was odd. We made friends with 2 ladies from England, who was unfortuntetely pick-pocketed outside the hotel. She remembers going to see to a 'stray dog' that looked as if it had been shackled to a shop, but bitten through it's lead. The man nearby told the ladies to take him. Between this and walking through to the shops nearby, I remember she said a lady was trying to get her into a shop (man-handled), when she got back to hotel she noticed her euros missing. She was also sick in the night and ordered to pay 200 euros for a clean up. Hired a car over the road and ventured out. I think this may have been the highlight of our stay. People at the bar were friendly and nice arcade for adults and kids. Cons: Food and drink mediocre When you walk around it looks like Beruit Pick-Pockets Don't get a ground floor room Weird old bloke hanging around Pros Swimming pools would have been nice, if it had of been warmer Inddor pool was nice We tried to complain to On the bEACH, but they said they had no record of it from the hotel. The English couple said jokingly that they put all the English on the ground level. I suspect that this is also where the workers stay too. I would not come back to tis hotel. I was disapointed that it would've taken around 4 hours to get to Balos beach. I would come back to Crete, but instead visit Chania. Mattresses are awful!
Went there with 2 families. Just before the real holiday season started The good: -Food is excellent here. I have been to many all inc hotels and this quality here is great. Plenty to chose from. Breakfast comes with a pancake & egg station. -Rooms: if you choose the superior rooms, you will get a nice spacious room with both shower and bath. -3 pools, 1 is indoor and heated. 1 has a poolbar and all have enough sunbeds (but in all honesty: not sure if that is true during the main season also). -Private beach: again enough sunbeds and suncover. -Wifi is good. Around the superiors room+swimming area it is sufficient fast to watch Netflix The bad -fitness room: in real need of an upgrade. The equipment is old and malfunctioning. -Area: there are some shops/restaurants in the nabourhood but all in all there is not much to do here. Do not expect a boulevard -Matrasses are hard. Bordeline uncomfrtable. We had to use extra blankets to soften them up The ugly: -As you see often nowadays the all-inc concept includes ostmox softdrinks and local spirits. Yes, it is rum/brandy/gin but simply will not taste as good as the real thing. -The hotel is in the fly by range of the airport. This means you will see and hear planes fly towards the airport 3-4 times an hour. Since the airport it 20 km away ot is not really that troubling but loud enough to note it.
Initially went for 11 days but extended to 14. Jet 2 were brilliant ,the hotel staff were happy to help. Again we had a fabulous 2 weeks. Yet more work has been done to update more rooms. And the groundsman was busy chopping back trees and bushes. We stayed on the 3rd floor room 327. Great view towards the harbour . Food was excellent as usual . Especially the Fresh pizza Oven and the fabulous salads Special mention to Gianni the matre d who was on top form as usual. HE ALWAYS took time to sit with us to have a catch up and chat Tony at the pool bar kept us entertained and topped up with Rakhi. This year ,along with our good friends Amanda Steve Emily Michael and Pam and Mick we invented the best ever booze cruise. A lilo used to ferry drinks across the pool... Such fun.. it's was great to catch up with so many friends.. And we missed a few special people too. This hotel is like going home. Everyone makes you feel special all of the staff are amazing and remember you every year. SO MANY people return time after time it's such a special place. We are already booked for next year Elani who mainly worked at the main pool bar, but covered for Tony on his lunch breaks was such fun and never seemed to go home. The lovely Alexander was on duty as normal in the blue bar.. This was his last season as he is retiring which is such a shame. Gotta love his Alexander special cocktails. Mr Mike and his fabulous shirts always made time for a chat at the lobby bar... The animation team at the bottom pool always made us laugh . Can't wait to get back there.
