Awful food and overpriced hotel
We stayed for five nights. Unfortunately we couldn’t cancel the booking. The food in this hotel is massively overpriced and awful. It’s right on the beach and the fish and seafood were revolting. Buffet even worse. They have no idea how to cook. We stayed in other 5 hotels and we always had great Sri Lankan food. The morning juice was cheap cordial (in every other place they had awesome fresh Sri Lankan fruit freshly juiced), and the tea, that should excel in Sri Lanka and that we always found amazing anywhere else, was the cheapest brand you can find everywhere in the world. Lucky there is a restaurant near by where we went to have something edible. Not good enough. Room average, tropical weather and there’s no fly screen so you must close the window and sleep with the aircon on. Not worth the money. It’s a trap for tourists. The sea as well was in the calmest time of the year and it was nearly impossible to swim, there were always massive waves that put everyone off. In Sri Lanka there are plenty of better locations with honest prices.
stay away from this property
this property has a very pathetic entrance to start with. the hotel lobby usually has no one to attend and always ready to argue on the most minute details about your trip. the staff as no manners to speak to guest. It violates your privacy in every stretch of imagination. Pool isnt clean Phone isnt working the toiletry are of some unknown company. Please avoid. by no means its a 5 star property.
Great location, good room, average service
We spent four nights at Temple Tree at the end of our two weeks in Sri Lanka. The room was a good size, with a great balcony overlooking the Indian Ocean. Strange setup with the upper half of the bathroom wall being a window, but not a massive issue! There are two nice swimming pools, both of which are heated by the sun during the day. The beach is quiet and clean, with some good waves to swim in. We ate outside the hotel for dinner (we thought Rs 2000 per person for the buffet was quite expensive). The breakfast buffet was decent, at least on a par with the other hotels we’d stayed at in Sri Lanka. The staff were all friendly and intended to be helpful, but in some respects they needed a little more training. For example, throughout our stay, the tv and internal telephone system was broken - we were told daily that the issues would be fixed the same day, but they never were. This didn’t cause a huge amount of inconvenience, but it was clear that the staff didn’t really know what was going on. It was ironic when a receptionist asked if we needed a wake up call - it wouldn’t be possible! Despite this, we enjoyed our stay, and would recommend for a relaxed ending to a holiday.
The hotel was one of the worst mistakes I had made in preparing for my honeymoon ! To start with we has speciafically picked this hotel for the the jacuzzi tub and such eminities when in reality we were hit with the shock that only dirty water would flow through the taps (brownish black water). For the first three days of the trip, there was no hot water available at all and finally complete water supply was cut off ! On constantly alarming the staff, we were later informed that the entire hotel was under maintainence and hence the multiple issues ( we were not even informed of this nor prior intimation was given). They later offered us a couple of free goodies to compensate after we insisted on speaking to the actual person in charge. In addition as it was our honeymoon we insisted on a few arrangements (dinner on the beach and such) and they were extremely impolite and demamded money be paid or wired immediately. The dinner arranged was extremely well done and probably that was the only higlight of the trip. There was another horrible incident that went down with the staff, if you would want to know of the same kindly DM me. All in all i will not recommend this place or the staff to anyone. The taj comes at the same price and is way way way better. We had paid for 5 days stay but after the 3th day we could not stay for a minute longer and moved to the Taj foregoing the two days amount, all thanks to the unfriendly and rickty staff and hotel. P.S: The spa was understaffed for the entire week and on enquiring we came to realise they had completely misrepresented and in realiality the JAL Spa (which they have respresented to have) is not in any way associated to the hotel.
Ok let me me start out by stating that it is not a 5 star luxurious property. With that in background, there is nothing in this property that can disappoint you. It is bang on the beach, so you have a constant view and access to the beach. The pool is great. The food is nice. A special mention tot he service and staff. They are very helpful. We were at the property for my son's 1st birthday and they made all the arrangements for cake, balloons and table without any additional cost. They also wrote "Happy birthday" on the bed with leaves..so sweet guys. Definitely recommended if you are not necessarily looking for overly luxurious property.
