Room amazing overlooking a quiet pool. Hotel excellent and staff so helpful and always smiling. Beach ok but Sea was very dirty and could do with a clean up in respect of a clean from the breakwater to the beach, so much plastic, sweet wrappers and remains of offerings left out
My husband and i spent 3 nights here in a beach wing room. The first room was not suitable with a shower over the bath as I have bad knees so we were given a 2nd choice nearby this time with a large walk in shower. This upstairs room was large with a long sofa as well as kingsize bed, quite dark during the day. Styled with balinese furniture and a lovely large outside balcony. The steps up and down were a challenge for me but I put up with it. The fridge was so noisy during the night, we had broken sleep. Didn’t think to turn the darned thing off!! Bed very comfy. The beach side pool was closest to our room and I got over my dislike of 'swim up bars' which I've avoided for years. The water was lovely and we even managed to get sun loungers most days. The hotel wasn’t packed which made our stay more enjoyable. Guests were mostly elderly Eurpeans who keep to themselves so no friendly banter around the pool. The grounds are beautiful with many trees. There are plenty of eateries and spas within walking distance outside on the main street. Loved the Wicked Parrot next door, great band on a Sunday night and authentic Irish food as well as Balinese. The beach side lounges are so comfy to use as they have decking installed. The location is just perfect in the centre of Sanur. Lovely walks along the beach path. Buffet breakfast was just ok. Not a great selection but did have the bircher muesli which we love. We checked out the two other pools which are small but very peaceful looking. I think I would stay up the Garden View end next time. Great hotel for a peaceful time
We returned from Bali yesterday after a week at the Griya Santrian - we stayed in room 203 one of the unrenovated rooms - the main room was fine, good but firm bed but the bathroom was not good, the sink wouldn't empty and the shower over them bath had to be used hand held because it was only chest height. They have made this resort nearly 100% no smoking (which is fine) if they advertise that. I understand smoking on the sun loungers around the pool near non smokers is unreasonable, but on your own balcony should be allowed. When we checked in we were told you could smoke at the swim up bar (which all smokers used) then 1/2 way through the week they changed that to no smoking at all. We would not have booked this hotel if we had been told this. Also the drinks at the pool bar were very expensive it was cheaper to drink the Bintang for the mini bar !!! Apart from this the staff were lovely and the location is great, it's an older age group and not many Australians alot of European over 60 tourists with the typical laying down towels on the sun beds early in the morning. The buffet breakfast was a bit disappointing too only two different types one one day the other the next same every second day no variety. I don't think we would stay there again.
A beautiful beautiful resort! It’s nice and quiet relaxing and the staff are all friendly . We got an upgrade to the Presidential suite and it was excellent! Nice and spacious, clean , has a walk-in shower , separate bath , lounge , excellent air conditioning , fruit bowl on arrival and excellent daily cleaning . It has three pools to choice from . One at the beach with a pool bar and two others to choose from to relax ! Only knock back was the breakfast, needed to have more variety . Other wise all ok .
Disappointing 3rd visit
We have previously found Griya superb, but our most recent visit was not 4 star.. And no one seemed to care. We have always stayed in the newer rooms, this time we were in indonesian style beach view rooms. Loved the old style, but the bathroom was not 4 star and these rooms should be priced that way. I guess we expected same standard and these rooms were a bit less but not enough given the poor old bathroom. The 'shower' was over the bath like a homestay or hostel, the shower head was rotten so the spray was coming out the shower head and holes. Toilet flush was not great and the bathroom was falling apart. The curtains were off the hooks, felt like a backpackers, which I wouldn't mind if the price reflected this. Lovely balcony and bed was comfy. There are heaps of sunbeds on beach now which was an improved change, although the guests hold the beds with towels for most of the day but aren't even using them. I was on the beach at 7am one day and towels were holding beds that didn't get populated until 9 or 10. It's a European thing to hold sunbeds. New smoking laws implemented so you have smokers huddled in corners like you see elsewhere in the world, Bali was always more chilled in this area so it starts to take away the chilled feeling ostracising guests. I told reception we weren't that happy and got blanked more or less. As always the majority of staff are super friendly and look smart. Unfortunately we probably won't stay here again. The location is great, pool lovely but didn't get that special feeling as a guest we had previously.
