Andernfalls muss man ihn anfordern!

Disappointing experience but not a bad holiday.

I'd like to start my review by saying that we did not have a bad holiday and we did enjoy our stay mostly. Upon our arrival the hotel is aesthetically pleasing and the view is beautiful. The rooms are tastefully decorated with air conditioning, lovely toiletries, gowns and slippers and a big comfy bed. We received a drink upon arrival and a bottle of white wine (though not chilled) and small selection of cakes awaiting us in our room. We were in a first floor apartment in Block 2 for the first part of our holiday. There are 3 pool areas with lots of comfortable sunbeds and cabanas dotted around as well as shallower feature pools not for swimming. We were initially impressed with the welcome, the architecture and the views. Pros: Gym Spa Staff mostly pleasant and helpful. A nice touch was the recognition of my partner's birthday with bottle of Rose fizz, cakes and pastries left in the room with a note. Food at the Watergarden restaurant was of a reasonably good standard, fresh but a little limited in choice, particularly for vegetarians and not in great quantities. Although sometimes they would run out of specific items or you might have to wait for a fresh batch to appear. Cons: The hotel unfortunately does not yet meet it's aspirations as advertised on it's website or in the marketing literature. Whilst this did not really spoil our holiday, it was disappointing that we were sold something that does not yet exist. The hotel is not yet fully completed and some improvements are ongoing. The Bar Pool overlooks a building sight which has been prepared for foundations for further development. Although building is not taking place during this season, we were under sold the holiday under the illusion that building had been completed. We have raised this with TUI as their booking site shows a photo of the completed hotel and not how it looks in reality. The hotel also has low level work ongoing, for example full-length mirrors being fitted into apartments whilst we were there (although ours never appeared!) Gardening work was also being undertaken. Unfortunately for us, extensive renovations and building work was ongoing in residential buildings opposite our apartment in Block 2. We were disturbed by building work several times before 09:00 in the morning. The builders aparently have an agreement with the hotel and are not supposed to start work before 10:00. Unfortunately this was not the case and is in very close proximity to Block 2. However, we have to commend Management on moving us promptly to a deluxe suite without any fuss when we informed them about the noise and asked if it were possible to be moved to a different room. The hotel is directly under a flight path with low flying aircraft directly overhead throughout the day from around 06:00 - 21:00 at night. Again this didn't really bother us but I feel this is something that clientele should be informed about prior to booking. There is noise from the residential area adjacent to the hotel, dogs barking and cockerels crowing (day and night). Whilst this was not problematic for us and outside of the control of the hotel, we know it was problematic for some guests who were expecting a quiet, peaceful slow living experience. There are 3 pools, we only used the Bar Pool and the Spa Pool during our stay. Initially the pools appeared clean and we were happy, however, by day 5 of our holiday, despite being cleaned daily, the pool water in the Bar Pool was murky with oil (from sunprotection?) floating on the surface. The Spa Pool also had a green algae? on the sides of the wall which was very off putting. In addition to the Watergarden restaurant, the hotel has two Al a Carte restaurants, however, they operate on an alternating basis and only offer tasting menus. There is no al la carte menu so once you've been, there is no point in going again unless you are happy to have the same tasting menu again. When we went to the Haroub we were not informed when we booked at reception, that you need to request vegetarian alternatives for some plates. So when I asked about vegetarian options, staff were quite put out, despite me explaining that I had not been informed that I needed to do this. As there are limited places for these restaurants, you have to book in advance. We were only able to book at 21:00 for one evening at the Haroub, which to be honest is too late for us to enjoy a 12 plate tasting menu. Staff again appeared annoyed that we asked to leave before all plates had been served. There are no daytime snacks available only breakfast, lunch and dinner. We did not know that the Pool Bar had ice cream if you asked for it. Ther is no Pattiserie or Coffee Shop as advertised. We also found out on our return home that we could have visited the Haroub at lunchtime instead of the buffet at the Watergarden. We went all inclusive, which ends at 14:00 on your last day. This surprised us since we had a late evening flight home. Service in the hotel bars inconsistent, but there are some good staff. The Main Bar is extremely slow, this could not be blamed on staff being busy as the hotel is not yet at full capacity. We're not big drinkers and we're very health conscious so to be asked if we would like drinks within 30 minutes of arrival would have been nice. We are however fast learners, so just went to the bar and ordered rather than waste our time waiting around for bar staff to serve us. On another occasion, the wrong drinks were served to us at the Main Bar, when I took them back to inform them, they insisted they had given us the correct drinks! I insisted politely that they were not what we ordered and suggested that it wasn't a problem but that we would like the correct drinks. Again, the barman insisted he'd given us the correct drinks, waving a bottle at me and insisting I taste the drinks again!! Rather than make a fuss I did a taste comparison, as he requested. He soon realised from my reaction that he had indeed given us the wrong drinks and replaced them immediately, however no apology was ever given. My partner was extremely annoyed by this stating this is not the type of behaviour a customer should expect from a 5 start establishment. In retrospect we should have complained about this incident. We enjoyed the Pool Bar far more than the main bar but again service was very slow and inconsistent. Bearing in mind the hotel was not at full capacity, empty glasses were not being collected, and orders had to be placed at the bar unless you were prepared to wait indefinitely for the waiter to come take your order. On two occasions, upon visiting the bar to place an order, staff forgot and our order never materialised. We did at least receive apologies from the bar staff when this happened. The hotel has a free minibar, however it is not restocked regularly and has a limited selection (1 Mythos, 1 Coca Cola 1 alcohol free Mythos, 1 Sprite, 1 orange juice, 1 mini white wine, 1 mini red wine, 1 small still water, 1 small sparkling water, 1 small gin, 1 small vodka) which is no good if you would both like a beer! I guess if it had bothered us that much we could have spoken to reception but again you shouldn't have to in a 5 star establishment! In addition, we didn't have a bottle opener in the room and had to request one twice in order usit the minibar. I was really looking forward to yoga classes as part of the slow living experience the hotel markets, however, classes were at 07:30am on three days a week accessible only by booking through the spa. I missed one class due to a late arrival so was unable to book. When I did book one class was cancelled due to my being the only participant (this has not happened at other 4 and 5 star establishments I've visited!) On a further occasion, I was so disappointed that the yoga teacher eventually went ahead with the session on a one to one basis but kept reminding me that this would not be the case should this happen again and I would have to consider using the gym instead. Entertainment is non-existant! We saw a pianist and cellist at the Watergarden Restaurant at breakfast time which was very pleasant. on one evening a guitarist played at the main bar which would've been a pleasant change had the poor man not had to compete with a bingo caller from a nearby hotel. Again this is unfortunate for the hotel and I guess out of their control. A further downside for us was the resort of Tsilivi, which has no remaining features of a Greek fishing village. On the contrary it was very busy and overdeveloped with a very different demographic to the hotel. It was full of loud bars, eateries and gift shops, not really to our taste as we like to experience a little culture as well as traitional Greek restuarants rather than sample cocktail bowls, burgers, pizza and chips. I can do that at home! The beach is also very disappointing, a long, sandy strip where hotels dominate what little sand there is with their sun loungers. To conclude, we feel that the hotel still has some way to go to operate successfully as a 5 star establishment based on our experience and other hotels we have visited. Do we think it is currently value for money? As a new hotel with lots of unresolved problems this season, No. Would we return? Again, no not unless major improvements are evident.

A week to decompress

I think the way to approach a holiday is, what do I want out of it? Entertainment until 3am. Close proximity to nightlife, restaurants and bars. Vibrant poolside activities. A diverse mixture of guests mingling around a crowded bar. None of these are ever on my wish list and the King Jason obliged. It’s quiet (mostly), secluded from the absolute dump of a main village of Tzivili and the adjacent half built residential shacks, and is an oasis of peaceful relaxation amidst the construction site that is this part of Zante. The whole site is very minimalist modern with large concrete slab roofing and plain taupe coloured walls. You could say it was WWII gun emplacement chic, or giving Kim Kardashian vibes (same thing really). The entire complex transforms at night with cleverly designed accent and spot lighting. Lots of tranquil infinity pools, copious amounts of sun beds so comfy you could easily spend the entire day ensconced in the memory foam bed cabana, reading or dozing with your earbuds gently whisking you away to heat induced slumber, as the warm wind hypnotises the stress away from your limbs. This is all lovely, as are the staff, the food and the general idea of this place. The downside is very little, but worth noting. As mentioned in several previous reviews 1/ The snagging list of finishes could easily be resolved within a couple of weeks for two operatives. eg; shower door not sealed on the inside exposing expanding foam adhesive. Three shower soap dispensers stuck on the wall had all fallen off and need drilling and screwing down (sticky pads are a quick temporary fix). Every single staircase metal base for the glass panel balustrade has an end cap missing exposing the unsightly metal extrusion. Badly poured concrete walkways that’s already started to crack, break up and subside. The list is extensive, but easily rectifiable with some basic maintenance staff. 2/ The time it takes to receive anything from a bar or restaurant. Heavens, they are very, very slow and have staffing issues in all areas of the site leading to reduced service. This is a time management and staff employment issue they should sort out by now. 3/ If you don’t mind the 5am cockerel chorus and accompanying canine symphony every time a vehicle drives past (the story goes that the neighbours were so annoyed at the hotel site being built next door that they bought more dogs!), and the occasional low flying aircraft (it’s on the flight path), it’s really quite pleasant. I like this place. I like the attentive and very friendly staff. I like the lack of rushing about or people putting towels on beds (there’s so many), and I like the slow, gentle almost pedestrian pace it wakes up to a Mediterranean morning. It’s what I wanted for my week away. I do believe this complex will be far more aesthetically pleasing in a few years, once all the landscaping has had time to bed in, grow and mature. And the management have sorted out the staffing issues. Perhaps I’ll return then, once my credit card for this trip has been paid off!

Beauty and peace

The art of slow living, in a state of the art, impeccable 5 star hotel. Beauty and peace! It's a place where you can take a break, be in paradise, relax and just do nothing, but go with the flow. Serene, ethereal, you can immerse in a system of infinity pools, insulated from the worries of this world. Definitely recommended!
