Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Santorini
My wife did her homework and found this absolute gem. It's quiet, not a noisy tourist in sight. Well, maybe one Spanish lady who thought it was acceptable to shout into her mobile phone for an hour whilst lounging by the pool. But this was one hour during a 9 day stay. The staff were really lovely. Friendly and very helpful. Special thanks to Giorgos and to Maria. After our departure we realised that we were missing the constant but gentle sound of the sea lapping the nearby beach and port. It's sooooo relaxing. Slept like logs every night we were there. Breakfast was a delight, endless coffee and the croissants were so good that even our French friends gave them the 'thumbs up'. And they should know. This hotel is only half an hour from Oia but who'd want to stay there? The sunset is just as good in Vlichada and you can walk around without being jostled by selfie stick waving self entitled irritants. There are 4 tavernas within walking distance, a mini market and another beach (almost deserted) is a 17 minute walk from your room via the road, or 25 mins via the rocks. A perfect stay.
Panaromic view! What a Paradise!
We were delighted to be upgraded to a suite on first night. Rest of the 3 nights in junior suite were just as fantastic with panaromic sea views. Not only that, we could also see sunset every day. And sunrise from the road behind the hotel. Great thanks to friendly George & Cleopetra who helped us with taxi bookings & restaurant suggestions. I was hoping to have coffee& tea making in the room as it is a junior suite. However, only 2 bottles of drinking water was provided. The breakfast buffet was good. The hotel is very close to Vilchada beach. There are nice seafood restaurants near the hotel. And a mini market. Perfect way to hang around the hotel without going anywhere. The hotel is 20 mins by car from Fira. The taxi fare is rather expensive if you don't have a car. All in all, we enjoyed our stay.
Any reviews of this hotel before January 2022 Are obsolete. Just spent an amazing 10 days here and it’s fabulous.
The current Manager Yiannis is not only friendly, approachable, hands on and visible at this hotel but is clearly a highly skilled and motivated guy and he gets things done !! We booked a few months before our visit and like others were very worried about our upcoming stay having read some of the previous reviews. Let me tell you, worry no more. He and his team have worked tirelessly, pre season, to rectify previous problems highlighted and improved the aesthetics and standards of the hotel as well as building a wonderful team of young and enthusiastic staff who are a total credit to him and made our 10 day holiday even better. I do have to say that some of the older reviews were unfair, I mean, don’t be surprised at the geography of where the hotel is if you don’t look at a map before you book. Also, the expectations of some visitors to Greece for the first time are unrealistic. It’s not Dubai. If you want shiny and modern with bell boys then go to Dubai. This is Greece 🇬🇷. If you know, you know !! The hotel is perched above the little marina called Vichlada which is on the bottom of the crescent 🌙 of Santorini. Look on the map and do your research before you book! We found this little place when we hired a car 5 years ago and visited again 2 years ago. Hiring a car or atv or quad is ideal for this area if you want to get out and explore the island but if you just want to sit by the pool and chill and read it’s perfect. You can’t really walk to any other resorts though. There is a little train that runs from the car park to a perissa regularly during summer which we saw and looked fun ! The ship like hotel is built into the cliff side which means every room faces the sea. It’s west facing in parts which means you can watch the sun set from your room every night ! There are different sizes of rooms from the biggest suite at the top with its own pool, down through various suite sizes, some of which had their own decks and pools and right down to the standard double room which is what we had. Our room was very good and exceeded our expectations. We had a king sized bed with side tables each side, a dressing table and chair, a fridge with bottled water, a safe, 2 large drawers and 2 hanging devices with ample coat hangers. We had a terrace outside the door with cushions and a table for sunbathing and reading or watching the sun go down. We had 2 different air conditioning units as well as a ceiling fan which in August was very welcome ! We had a private bathroom with shower, toilet and modern sink. There were sustainable toiletries provided as well as towel robes and our towels were replaced daily by the housekeeping staff who were also very friendly. The rooms were spotless. The hotel is on different levels with all stairs being external so the walk back to our room was always with a view. The reception and restaurant area is beautiful and completely open with views over the marina. Breakfast was served here from 8am til 11am every day. It’s a buffet with everything you could imagine or need for every dietary requirement. Fresh breads, jams, honey, pastries, fresh fruit, meats and cheeses, Greek yoghurt with fruits and granola, bacon, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, sausages as well as some yummy specials that changed every day of pink donuts and chocolate cream filled croissants. Choices of fresh juices and teas as well as coffee with refills. We would have never got bored and never needed lunch !! There is a snack and lunch menu , cocktail and drink menus and the lovely staff, Panos, Anastasios, Aggeliki and Mary were always available for serving drinks and food by the pool or in the restaurant. At 7pm the menu changed to the evening meal menu which was varied and we sampled most of them while we were there. The standard of food was exceptional and nothing was too much trouble. The pool area has 2 pools. One is a swimming depth up to 2m and the other is an infinity shallow pool which was perfect for lying in to cool down and sunbathe. The area had more than enough double sun beds and also bean bags and parasols. They were never all full and even at 11:30 am we always had a choice of where to sit. There were also 2 shady rooms with hanging swing beds and fans so you could take a break from the sun for a while. It was just beautiful. There were 3 or 4 other tavernas within a short walk as well as the hotel restaurant and there was no pressure to eat there every night. It’s a very laid back atmosphere. Just next to the pool is the Hotel spa. We visited to have a look on our second day and were shown round the huge series of caves that have been carved into the cliff to form natural pools of thermal waters. The treatment rooms are also cave like and the whole place felt magical. The lovely staff were so knowledgeable and guided us to book the best possible treatments during our stay and the treatments we received were so much better than any of the ones I’ve had in UK spas. There was a much higher level of understanding of physiology and I felt absolutely amazing after my treatments. Olga and Marella were always smiling and friendly and had time to chat when we saw them by the pool handing out cooled flannels that smelled divine. They were very appreciated in the heat. Vichlada is away from the throng of the tourists ships and large towns and is centred on a fishing marina which now also is home to maybe 50 yachts and catamarans from lots of different sailing companies which leave at 10am and 3pm every day in the high season. We booked a sunset cruise and it was a fantastic experience and one we will always remember. The hotel can advise on booking. It’s fascinating to watch the coming and going and is literally like a constantly moving tv screen which we never tired of watching. There are 2 beaches. One is a dark shingle beach and has beach bars and sun beds with parasols. It’s very busy in peak times and popular with Greek people mostly. The other beach was on the far side of the marina and my children named it the sparkly beach when we last visited due to the sand being fine and having white, shiny particles mixed on with the black sand. This was a quieter beach. There are toilets, a really well stocked shop and a fresh fish taverna all on the marina. We loved looking round the fishing boats and the water was crystal clear. All in all we didn’t want to leave and am booking for next year and bringing our family back here. We loved it ! Thankyou for everything. See you in 2023 !
Very helpful staff, clean, quiet, and located next to the port so it was easy to get a cruise. I loved every minute of my stay. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place to unwind and get away from the noise of everyday life.
Super stay and spa experience
Super visit to hotel in May. We liked that it was quiet area and got a car to travel around the island. Hotel staff superb really helpful and friendly. Room was clean and spacious. If you want a place with more going on and places to walk to this isn’t your place but can’t recommend enough for a chilled break. Throughly recommend the spa! We didn’t visit until our last day but should have done this earlier. Vasilis and Olga were fantastic therapists 👍🏻
